Stay the Course: Embracing the Power of Persistence

Earlier this week, I came across an article about Sandra Oh and her first Emmy win for Outstanding Television Movie.

What stood out to me most was that she had been nominated for an Emmy 14 times before finally securing her win. Her story is a powerful reminder of what happens when you remain persistent in pursuing your dreams.

I also shared her inspiring journey about the Emmys on LinkedIn. (Click here to see the post)

Sandra Oh’s victory serves as a great example of why we should never give up, even when things get tough. We’ve all been in that space where it feels like nothing is happening, and you’re just “waiting” for the right moment. But the truth is, that moment arrives when you make the choice to take action and keep moving forward, even when obstacles stand in your way.

I often tell people that it took me two years to write two books for Wiley, and while that’s true, the deeper reality is that it was a culmination of over 9 years of podcasting, interviewing more than 800 women about confidence, over 10 years of carving out my own path (with more failures than successes), and over 40 years of learning to show up as my authentic self. These books wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t been persistent throughout my journey.

Persistence isn’t always easy, but when you have a big purpose and can find joy along the way, it becomes more manageable.

A big part of my persistence comes from my great grandfather, who started his own shipping line 51 years ago in the Philippines. His company, Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corporation – PSACC, wouldn’t have thrived without his relentless commitment to success.

One of his core values was PERSISTENCE. To him, it meant not giving up, striving to do better, and learning from mistakes. Looking back, it makes perfect sense why I’m so persistent in my own journey. Of course, there are times I question my path, but when I see the impact I’ve had—not just for myself, but for others—I know I’m where I need to be.

As we continue building our new TAO Queens community, I’m confident it will be a success because I’m determined to help women unleash their inner queens. My hope is that today’s newsletter serves as a reminder that persistence is key to making things happen. Too many people give up when they’re so close to achieving their goals, but that’s not what I want for you. I want to see you soar because you truly deserve it!

Keep moving forward, my friend. I’ll always be rooting for you. Let’s continue to stay persistent and make our dreams a reality.
